Aran Islands Express Tour
No trip to the West of Ireland is complete without a visit to the Aran Islands. Join us on the Aran Islands Express Tour, an adventure into the wild and ancient Ireland. You will feel as if you have stepped back in time as you walk, cycle or ride with the locals on a horse and trap. Chat with the islanders in the pubs and tiny cafes or dip a toe into the ocean on the most stunning island beaches.
The Aran Islands
Inisheer, on the edge of the Atlantic, harbours the memories of Ireland. The history and traditions of Gaelic culture, the spirit, the songs and stories of an ancient island people. This is the smallest and easiest of the islands on which to enjoy in a day trip. With a population of just 300 native Islanders only too happy to chat and advice to as you navigate the local paths and ancient sites.
Despite modern changes on the Island, you will still see the locals engaged in age-old tasks. Spot the Islanders collecting seaweed to fertilise gardens, building and repairing dry-stone walls. It is a place where it is a sense of being in the past and the present simultaneously that makes Inisheer special. On the island, you feel that the ghosts of old are still there: leaning against a wall to smoke a pipe, carrying fish from the old boats. In the roar of the sea and the whispers of the wind, you can almost hear the voices of those who have lived here for millennia.
A Place of Inspiration
With its austere but beautiful landscape, dry-stone walls, wonderful views over the Atlantic, and a wealth of historical sites, a visit to Inisheer is a must. This Island has inspired writers and artists as it still does to this day, including Irish greats like W.B. Yeats and J.M. Synge. Being isolated for centuries has meant that Inisheer retains much of the traditional Irish culture, including the language. Beautiful sandy beaches, boats and wandering dolphins, as well as great music and pubs with locally caught produce if you feel peckish.
